An essential part of the recruitment process is to ensure that any applicant is entitled to work in the UK.
Sections 15 to 25 of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 set out the law on the prevention of illegal working.
It is an offence for you to employ someone aged 16 or over who has no right to work in the United Kingdom (UK) or no right to do the work you are offering. If you are in breach of the law, you may be liable to pay a civil penalty, which can be up to £10,000 per illegal worker.
